Duncan Read
Duncan Read. BDS (Dund) 1982 – GDC Registration Number – 56606
Duncan graduated from Dundee University in 1982. On qualification he worked with the Community Dental Service in Bolton, treating mainly children. Later moving to what was West Germany he worked with a German Dentist for 2 years within a Private Practice, where amongst other things he gained valuable experience in providing crowns and bridges.
Returning to the UK in 1985, he has worked in several dental practices in the North of England. In 1986 he became a partner for Reads Dental Practice and worked alongside his brother, David and father in their family dental practice. Working mainly as a Private Dentist for the past 25 years, he is interested in all the disciplines of general dental practice.
Duncan particularly enjoys treating nervous patients, as well as providing cosmetic dentistry and endodontics.
In his spare time he is a keen SCUBA diver. Being a BSAC Advanced Instructor and First Class Diver, which is the highest diving grade awarded to a member of The British Sub-Aqua Club, he gets pleasure from teaching boat handling and diving.
In 2016 Duncan is looking forward to working for Ravat & Ray as an Associate Dentist. This will mean he will have less responsibility in a managerial/business planning role, than he has been accustomed to over the past 30 years, so he can concentrate his resources solely on providing a high standard of quality dental care for his patients.

Michael Platten
Michael Platten, BChD Leeds 2014 – GDC Registration Number – 252323
Michael graduated from Leeds University with a BChD in dental surgery in 2014. Michael has been part of the Ravat and Ray group since graduating from University and continues to work one and a half days a week at our sister practice, Highfield.
With his Irish twang, Michael has settled in well at the practice, and Farnworth and Manchester are now home from home for him. He grew up in a small town 20 miles north of Belfast, called Larne in N.Ireland. He often travels home to spend some quality time with his family and loves to get back to see his nephew Alby, who is only two. Whilst at University, Michael always played a key role with his fellow colleagues, being elected into the role of Vice President which was followed by President of the Leeds Dental Society. This let him make many contacts within the field of dentistry and through this he has made many good friends who he regularly sees.
